Luka Doncic failed to help the Lakers against the Wolves, eliminated in the first round. This was enough to make his detractors very happy, some of whom felt that Nico Harrison was right after all.

We know that Luka Doncic is going to take a lot of criticism in the coming weeks. His defense wasn’t up to scratch against the Wolves, while his behavior against the referees has again caused a buzz, and not really for the right reasons. Rather interesting when you consider that the Mavericks parted company with him because of it.

In his interviews with journalists over the past few weeks, Harrison has repeated time and again that defense wins championships. So we imagine that if he’s been watching the Lakers’ recent games, he must be more convinced than ever in his choice. But was he really right to make this move?

For some accounts on Twitter in particular, the Lakers’ elimination is Nico Harrison’s victory. Many believe that the GM was right to make this move, and that Doncic will never reach the NBA title game. One NFL journalist commented:

@JosinaAnderson: “So are Twitter trolls going to apologize to Nico Harrison now?”

There’s a problem in the equation, however: the Mavericks are already long eliminated on their side. The franchise didn’t make it past the play-in round, a year after reaching the Grand Finals. Suffice to say, even if Doncic hasn’t shone on his side, this is even less the case for Dallas. The fans were there to remind us.

@k4v3_5p0rt5: “Why? What did the Mavericks come up with tonight?”

@rthrash3: “Already a contender for dumbest tweet of the year.”

@yappmatt: “Where are the Mavericks again? They were finals a year ago anyway.”

@MFFL4101: “But the Mavs aren’t even in the playoffs?”

The elimination of the Lakers and Doncic certainly doesn’t vindicate Harrison, however. A truly dubious tweet, quickly picked up by Internet users, who confirm that the GM still made a disastrous decision of his own. The Mavericks still have everything to prove to silence some of the fans.
