With the Lakers having lost in the first round of the playoffs, Luka Doncic is now on vacation. A chance for the Slovenian to take a breather after a crazy 2024-25 season. He made a big admission to the media.
Should we have expected so much from them after just a few months? Last February, the Lakers’ season took an unexpected turn with the trade of Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic. For many observers, this move propelled the Purple and Gold into the ranks of serious title contenders… but unfortunately for the Californian fanbase, it won’t be for the 2024-25 campaign.
Indeed, the latter came to an end following a Game 5 loss to the Timberwolves, synonymous with elimination in the first round. A disappointing scenario for many, and unsurprisingly, Doncic is one of those most criticized. It should be remembered that he only arrived in Los Angeles two months ago, and that the current roster is not built around him, but rather around his sidekick LeBron James.
Luka Doncic exhausted after a crazy 2024-25 season
Be that as it may, 2024-25 is now over for the Slovenian, a year rich in emotions and trials for him. A great competitor, he was obviously not satisfied with his playoff performances, as he explained to reporters in a press conference after Game 5, praising the Timberwolves’ excellent level in the process:
Obviously, I feel sad. I don’t think I played as well as I should have. And as a team, we didn’t play at our best. But congratulations to Minnesota. They put on a hell of a show. Honestly, they were the better team. There’s clearly a lot to do. I’ve got to improve. The whole team has to improve. We’ve got a long summer ahead of us, and we need to focus on what we can do better, individually and collectively.
El Matador has made no secret of the fact that he’s pretty worn out psychologically:
I’m mentally kind of exhausted after everything that happened. I know a lot of people won’t believe me, but I am.
It’s now time for the No.77 to rest up and prepare for his first full season with the Purple and Gold. While the Angelino front office must find the right players to play with him, Halleluka will also have to demonstrate an impeccable attitude and level in 2025-26. He’s under far more scrutiny in LA than anywhere else, and the slightest deviation will earn him the wrath of all and sundry.
