Holding a comfortable lead for the majority of their Game 1 against Denver on Monday, the Thunder finally collapsed (119-121). This was partly due to Chet Holmgren, whose name was once again linked to Victor Wembanyama’s on the web.

The hierarchy seemed about to be respected. Announced as favorites in their series against the Nuggets, the Thunder assumed this status for a long time on Monday. After all, Mark Daigneault’s men held a 14-point lead in the 2nd quarter (55-41) and clearly dominated the proceedings. However, this was the moment Aaron Gordon chose… to put Chet Holmgren on a huge poster:

Holmgren may have been the victim of that big dunk in the first half, but he could still boast. His team’s superiority was still evident in the second half, when they still led by 11 points at 4:30 of the final buzzer (113-102). But that was before Denver mounted an improbable comeback… and took advantage of the young inside player’s misfortunes to win:

After missing two free throws in money-time, Chet took Aaron Gordon’s game-winner on the head. In other words, his game turned into a nightmare in the space of a few seconds. And while his team-mates were relatively indulgent towards him after the defeat (119-121), many Internet users buried him with… Victor Wembanyama comparisons:
