Just hours after seeing off the Rockets, Stephen Curry and the Warriors face the Timberwolves this Tuesday. The star point guard is obviously wary of this confrontation, particularly in relation to Anthony Edwards.
For a team with such a high average age, the rest period between each of its games should not be overlooked. The Warriors can therefore regret not closing their series against Houston sooner. Having qualified for the Western Conference semi-finals after a hard-fought Game 7, they must now prepare for a new, even tougher confrontation.
Stephen Curry talks about the Anthony Edwards equation
48 hours after their last outing on the court, Stephen Curry and his team-mates will be back in action this Tuesday evening in Minneapolis. They’ll be playing the first game of their series against the Timberwolves, and will of course be looking to regain home-court advantage. To this end, the Chief seems to have identified the main threats in the opposing camp. He tells a press conference:
Stephen Curry: We’ve had a look at their first-round series and it’s clear that Anthony Edwards is playing with maximum confidence. We know they had a great run last year, and now they’re playing differently with (Julius) Randle. But as far as Ant is concerned, it’s always the same with him: he tries to make the most of every opportunity the opposing defense gives him.
Although he mentions Julius Randle, Curry nonetheless makes Anthony Edwards the #1 threat in Minnesota’s ranks. The young winger posted impressive averages of 26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists against the Lakers in the previous round. The Warriors know they’ll have to pay particular attention to him, as confirmed by Steph :
Stephen Curry: It’s going to be a tough challenge. We know we’re going to have to put several defenders on him who are going to take turns, and we’re going to make sure we come up with a game plan to limit his impact. But yeah, he and the Wolves are hot right now. They’ve been playing really well for the last few weeks. And as far as we’re concerned, we’re happy to still have the chance to play basketball.
While they are logically vigilant before taking on Ant, the Dubs can also be confident about their defense. Since the arrival of Jimmy Butler, they are, after all, the best team in the league in this area. It’s also a safe bet that the former Heat star will make it his mission to muzzle his opposite number, as he has the qualities to do so.
