In the current era, it seems obvious that the point guard position is the most important of all. Tyrese Haliburton had a funny way of describing his role on the court recently… but it’s a fitting one.
Can the Pacers eliminate another strong opponent? Having already snuffed out the Bucks in the first round, Rick Carlisle’s troops started their series against the Cavaliers on the right foot by winning Game 1. A bit of a surprise given that their opponents easily dominated the Eastern Conference during the regular season, finishing with the second-best record in the league.
That didn’t frighten Tyrese Haliburton and his teammates though, as the point guard put in a superb performance against Cleveland. 22 points at 9/15 shooting, 13 assists and three blocks while turning the ball over just once: the 2024 Olympic champion was absolutely perfect in his team’s victory.
L’étonnante comparaison signée Tyrese Haliburton
Recently voted the league’s most overrated player by his peers, the former Kings’ prodigy responded to his detractors head on. Asked by reporters about his performance after Game 1, Haliburton drew a rather interesting comparison between his role on the court… and that of a mother at home:
I feel like I facilitated at a high rate. Just try to get guys involved and try to make the right play. Try to take care of the ball as much as I can and help lead the team. That’s why I’ve said many times, being a point guard is like being a mom. Your job is to take care of everybody, just trying to do that at a high level. I guess if we win the game, I was a good mom.
He can clearly consider that his mission has been accomplished, as he has been insanely clean with his ball in hand. This is also true of his entire post-season career, as the NBA recently revealed on its X account:
