While some NBA franchises remain focused on the title race, others have already turned their attention to the upcoming Draft. A scout’s recent comments about French prospect Nolan Traoré may well interest them.

Until now, the conference semi-finals have been exciting, but they haven’t monopolized the league’s attention. In fact, they involve just eight teams – less than a third of all the NBA. The remaining two-thirds have already begun their off-season and are currently fine-tuning their plans. This includes Draft 2025, which will take place in exactly seven weeks’ time.

In the run-up to the traditional Combine, which kicks off in a few days’ time, the various front offices have already studied the many profiles of the players entered. Among them is Nolan Traoré, who has been the talk of the town for many months in the United States. But after being announced as one of the Top 5 players in his class, the young French guard may not even be granted lottery pick status.

An expert compares Nolan Traoré to Théo Maledon and Killian Hayes

Although ambitious about his future in the NBA, Traoré no longer appears to be one of the most attractive NBA prospects. His position therefore varies according to the various mock drafts, which at last count put him between the 10th and 19th picks. In any case, this is what Cyro Asseo of Choch reports for Hoopshype, before delivering the words of an international scout about the French prodigy:

Traoré is a French guard who seems NBA-ready in terms of playmaking and has good potential as an outside shooter. That said, his shooting is at a less advanced stage than his ball handling. But it’s his playmaking and athleticism that are most intriguing. If he develops even an average 3-point shot, he’ll become at worst a rotation player in the league.

As you can imagine, Traoré’s success on the other side of the Atlantic will depend largely on his shooting ability, which has been disappointing this season with Saint-Quentin (38.5%, 31.3% from 3-point range). But what about the qualities he is already displaying on the Betclic ÉLITE floors? According to the same scout, they’re not as salivating as those displayed by Théo Maledon or Killian Hayes before taking the plunge:

I find him less intriguing than other French guards who have been drafted in the recent past, such as Théo Maledon or Killian Hayes.

Nevertheless, let’s hope that the young French international is more successful than his two compatriots in the US, whatever position he lands in at the Draft.
