While LeBron James is expected back on the floor in October, he is refusing to commit at the moment. He’ll have a chat with his family soon, but it could be a game-changer for the Lakers.

With the Lakers losing in the first round of the playoffs, it’s obviously a major setback for LeBron James. We know he wants to win another title before the end of his career, and let’s just say he doesn’t have much time left. According to Shams Charania, the King is expected to return for another campaign in September.

For other insiders, two more seasons are also possible for the Akron native. It all depends on how his body responds to the succession of games, because don’t count on James to have one year too many. And at this stage, he still has no idea what he wants to do. Yes, retirement remains a possibility for this summer.

LeBron James refuses to commit

Remember that James will have to make a decision between now and free agency to guide the Lakers in their recruitment. However, retirement seems unlikely when you get to know the player, especially as this isn’t the first time he’s said such a thing. For Internet users, a Kobe Bryant-style end to his career would be the most likely.

So, the King could announce his retirement for the summer of 2026 before the start of the season and get a farewell tour through the NBA. That would be well-deserved for one of the greatest players in history, but it’s not yet confirmed. In his podcast, LeBron maintains a (false?) suspense of his own.

It’s also a roundabout way of putting pressure on the Lakers, who could lose out big if James decides not to return. Remember that even if he doesn’t retire, he can choose to sign elsewhere by declining his player option. The Angelinos will have to be wary, although James has always implied that he was ready to retire in the City of Angels. But they’ll have to give him a good reason for it.
