Without shining offensively, Rudy Gobert was once again solid in the Timberwolves racket. The only negative point was that he was put on the poster by an in-form Jonathan Kuminga. The Warriors player discussed this action in a press conference.
After dominating the NBA in the 2010s, the Warriors could easily have done it again for another decade. Fortunately for the rest of the league, the Bay franchise’s leaders made a string of bad decisions, particularly at the draft. For example, in 2020, after a very complicated season, they chose to select James Wiseman rather than LaMelo Ball or Tyrese Haliburton.
The latter is now an All-Star and one of the most popular players on the planet, yet the pivot played just one game for the Pacers this year. A year later, Jonathan Kuminga did the same, while Franz Wagner, Alperen Sengun and Jalen Johnson were available. At a time when the latter are indisputable starters, Kuminga is fighting for minutes with the Warriors. On Thursday, he put up a good fight.

Often criticized for his lack of intelligence in the game and his nonchalance, Jonathan Kuminga was irreproachable on Thursday with 18 points and 5 rebounds, all at over 70% shooting success. He started the Warriors off on the right foot, before being incomprehensibly taken out by Steve Kerr. In the press conference, he spoke mainly about his poster on Rudy Gobert:
I think a lot of people weren’t paying attention, but Draymond made the pass to me, and I was trying to find Jimmy. But as soon as he saw that I was being defended by Rudy Gobert, Jimmy told me to attack him. I said to myself that this was my moment. I wanted to do something positive for the team. When Jimmy and Draymond tell you to attack, it’s a sign of confidence.
Rudy Gobert isn’t respected by many opponents, least of all the Warriors, where he has a formidable foe. So when Draymond Green saw him defending against the athletic Jonathan Kuminga, he asked his teammate to attack and take advantage of his quickness. Mission accomplished with brio by the Congolese.
