Will Stephen Curry return in the second round of the playoffs? The Warriors hope so, but to do so, they may have to win at least one game to buy some time. And that’s not looking good, according to Shams Charania.
In front of their home crowd, the Warriors lost again this Saturday night to the Wolves, with a score of 97-102 at the finish. Steve Kerr’s men weren’t far away from victory, but Draymond Green let his team-mates down again with 6 fouls and just 2 points. Jonathan Kuminga (30 units) was not enough off the bench.
Frustrating for fans, who know that the slightest victory can have a direct impact on Stephen Curry’s return. Re-evaluated next week, the point guard is still a long way from being able to return to the parquets, and if he wants to come back in this second round, the Dubs must find a way to extend the series. But for the moment, Golden State can’t.
Danger ahead for Stephen Curry?
Curry isn’t expected to be able to return until Game 6, which means Minnesota can potentially avoid this by winning the next two games. Shams Charania was on ESPN this Saturday to give some news and let’s just say it’s not glorious. The Warriors need to win at least one game.
Shams Charania : “Stephen Curry is back in San Francisco and is receiving a lot of treatment for his strained hamstring. There’s still a lot to do in terms of movement, contact, running etc. He will be re-evaluated this Wednesday, and until then, the Warriors’ mindset is simple: they want to win at least one of the next two games at home for Game 3 and 4.”
“They want to extend the series to 6 games or 7 to buy time for Curry. Game 6 is considered where Curry can return sooner rather than later. But this is the first injury of its kind in his career.”
Interestingly, as ESPN points out, there will be 4 days’ rest between Game 5 and Game 6, giving Curry the precious time he needs to come back in time. But for that to happen, the franchise needs to win at least one game, and don’t count on the Wolves to give them a gift. It promises to be a tense Game 4 on Monday night, with plenty of pressure on Kerr’s men. Minnesota, on the other hand, know what they have to do.
