Author of a big campaign with the Spurs for a few months, Victor Wembanyama has now been out of action since February. And despite this fact, he continues to dominate the statistics, even when the playoffs are taken into account. That’s saying something.
While the playoffs have been underway for a few weeks now, the Spurs are hoping to be part of them from next season onwards. The franchise certainly has an intriguing roster, but Victor Wembanyama will need help to achieve this goal. That’s why we can expect some moves this summer, some of them possibly involving stars.
The Spurs have been linked with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant in recent weeks, although there’s no saying the franchise will take a chance on the arrival. But the hope is real for fans, who want an improved roster to reach the postseason. And that’s what it’s going to take, considering the competition in the Western Conference.
Victor Wembanyama continues to surprise fans
What is certain is that the future of this organization remains impressive. With young players, money and draft picks (including two in this year’s top 14), the Texans have what it takes. But Wembanyama remains the main reason to smile, especially when you see how he dominated the NBA in his second campaign.
More adept in all areas offensively, Victor has also turned a corner defensively, averaging just under 4 counters on the season. He’s still the leader now, as journalist Tim Reynolds points out, even if you count the playoffs. That’s how much the pivot has dominated the debates for the DPOY and other trophies.
@ByTimReynolds : “Random stat … Victor Wembanyama hasn’t played since February. And he still has more blocked shots than anyone else this season, even including playoffs. Wemby 176 Myles Turner 165 Brook Lopez 154 Walker Kessler 138.”
It’s worth noting, though, that Turner isn’t far behind, especially as the Pacers are still playoff bound and dominating the Cavaliers at the moment. Whatever happens, it speaks volumes about Wembanyama’s dominance. The worst part? This is just the beginning for the Frenchman, who could easily achieve this feat season after season in the future. There’s no doubt he’ll win the DPOY one day, it’s just a question of when.
