Free agency begins next month, and we’re curious to know more about the situation of several players, including Guerschon Yabusele. Will he stay with the Sixers after a dismal campaign? Marc Stein has his say.

While the lottery is about to take place, as is the draft, some franchises are also looking ahead to free agency. Title contenders will obviously take advantage of this to strengthen their ranks, much like the Sixers, at least if they can still be considered as such. This team is undoubtedly the biggest disappointment of the last campaign.

The Sixers had set their sights on winning the championship, but instead finished bottom of the Eastern Conference. A complete wreck due to a less-than-perfect roster and injuries. Only a handful of players, such as Guerschon Yabusele, gave satisfaction. But for this summer, the Frenchman is free.

What next for Guerschon Yabusele?

It should be remembered that Yabusele had signed for just one year with Philadelphia, who simply wanted to give the player another chance in the NBA at the outset. Except that, in the end, he established himself as one of the best players on the roster, and now they need to find a way to retain him. Not an easy task, given the imposing competition and the higher salary.

Because if the Frenchman signed for the minimum last season, it will be something else this summer. He’ll be asking for a bigger salary, and despite all that, the Sixers are still pretty confident in this dossier, according to Marc Stein. In his latest article, he confirms that Yabu is well on his way to staying in Philly. At least for the franchise.

Marc Stein : “League sources say that Philadelphia also hopes to re-sign bruising forward Guerschon Yabusele. Creating the needed financial flexibility to be able to retain the French national-teamer, who played this season on a veteran minimum deal, was a significant motivation behind Philadelphia’s cost-cutting moves at the trade deadline.”

So we don’t yet know if the Frenchman has chosen his side, but he’s never hidden a certain attraction to a new year in Philly, even after an abject failure. Hopefully, next season will be different for Yabu, with a bigger salary, a bigger role and, hopefully, a little more collective success.
