Giannis Antetokounmpo could well leave the Bucks in the coming weeks, according to Shams Charania. The player is opening the door, and the Spurs shouldn’t be far away. A duo with Victor Wembanyama from October?
Disappointed by elimination in the first round of the playoffs, Giannis Antetokounmpo must make a decision about his future this summer. According to Shams Charania, he will be meeting with his managers to take stock of the situation. In a message posted on Twitter, he confirms that the player is open to the idea of leaving.
Nothing confirmed yet, but it’s out there.
Shams Charania : “Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has not made any firm decisions, but for the first time in his career, he is open-minded about whether his best fit is remaining in Milwaukee – or playing elsewhere, league sources told ESPN.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo to join the Spurs?
And how can you blame the player. Milwaukee went out in the first round of the playoffs, Doc Rivers never fully convinced as a coach, while Damian Lillard’s injury changes the game. He’ll be out for months and miss much of the next campaign, all on a 60 million a year salary.
We could even add the failure of the Kyle Kuzma trade, in addition to the departure of Khris Middleton. So many reasons for the Greek Freak to have doubts and consider a career move to a new team. The Spurs? No confirmation yet, but according to Brian Windhorst, count on the Texas franchise to do its due diligence this off-season.
@esidery : “The Nets, Pelicans, Rockets and Spurs are teams to monitor for a potential pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, per @WindhorstESPN on @GetUpESPN. All four teams have the necessary draft pick surplus and compelling young prospects to make a strong offer to the Bucks.”
Everything should depend on the Bucks’ asking price, which should be major. After all, Giannis is in his prime and dominates outrageously. Put him alongside some very good players and your team will certainly have a chance of winning the title. An arrival with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio could change a lot of things in Texas.
