With his contract due to expire in a few weeks’ time, Guerschon Yabusele should have no shortage of suitors as a free agent. In this context, Daryl Morey has made sure to send him a message that leaves no room for doubt.
It’s not easy to bounce back from such a failure. But that’s exactly what the 76ers will have to do after their disappointing season. Declared title contenders, they didn’t even make the postseason, finishing the regular season in 13th place in the Eastern Conference (24-58). It has to be said that their squad was not spared by injuries, especially the stars who make it up.
Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey all went to the infirmary and were unable to avoid the fiasco. However, their absences allowed less-anticipated players to shine, such as Guerschon Yabusele. Recruited by Philadelphia last summer on a minimum contract, Yabusele clearly outperformed on his salary, and deserved a pay rise this summer.

A future unrestricted free agent, Yabusele should have no trouble securing a more lucrative contract this off-season. Whether with the Sixers or elsewhere. For their part, his franchise is hoping to keep him, according to the latest insider information. In fact, Daryl Morey confirmed this trend in recent hours during an appearance on the Rights To Ricky Sanchez podcast:

Not that we’ll be broadcasting it on stage, but would you like to say a few words about Yabu before we talk to him?
Daryl Morey: Well, he’s really embraces Philly, which is exciting. That said, he’s going to have a lot of great options on the table. I mean, all over the league, people are realizing his value. So I hope he realizes how important he is to us and to Philly fans. And the fact that he’s participating in your event could actually help us with free agency.
Failing to promise him a real financial jackpot, Morey is playing on the sentimental chord to retain “Yabu”. He therefore hopes that the hundreds of fans the French inside player will meet in the next few hours will give him the acclaim he deserves. It might, after all, encourage him to return the favor by continuing his journey in Pennsylvania.
