The NBA lottery delivered its verdict this Monday evening, and it was the Mavericks who won the jackpot. Cooper Flagg was there and didn’t seem… very happy, at least according to some fans. They think he wanted to join Victor Wembanyama at the Spurs.

When some people were asked about the craziest possible lottery scenario, many said a Mavericks win with a 1.8% chance. And guess what? That’s exactly what happened on Monday night in the NBA. Nico Harrison won the jackpot, a few months after sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers.

A few years ago, the Pelicans also got the first pick with Zion Williamson, several months after sending Anthony Davis to the Lakers. It’s enough to fuel rumors of Adam Silver rigging, as this is clearly the trend on social networks. Even those who don’t believe it don’t begrudge other people for thinking so, that’s to say.

Cooper Flagg unhappy?

Barring a catastrophe, the Mavericks will take Cooper Flagg with the first pick in June, and he’s considered a future big star in the league. Nico Harrison could trade him, but we already know that Flagg will end up with the first pick no matter what. But is he happy? Some doubt it, given his reaction.

Players have their preferences, as we saw again with Victor Wembanyama, clearly against the idea of landing with the Rockets, for example. And then to end up in Dallas with Harrison as leader? There’s nothing good about that when he can now be traded at any time this summer.

Flagg still has leverage: refuse to train with the Mavericks before the draft and make it clear that he doesn’t want to go there.
