While the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes are gaining momentum, Kevin Durant also remains a serious candidate for a trade this summer. According to the latest reports, he is tempted by a specific destination… but faces a major disappointment.

Nine years after his controversial signing with Golden State, he could once again turn the NBA landscape upside down with a change of scenery this summer. In any case, Kevin Durant seems to be close to a new start, having failed miserably with the Suns. Absent from the playoffs – and even from the Play-In Tournament – he is likely to be hoping to relaunch his career away from Phoenix and set his sights on a third championship ring.

At 36 years of age, the star winger remains a prime target on the market. As a result, several teams are likely to attempt a swap deal to obtain him during the off-season, thereby boosting their title chances. However, not all of them would necessarily be seduced by his ageing profile. Including the one for which he is said to be expressing a keen interest behind the scenes.

Kevin Durant snubbed by the Rockets?

The Athletic’s Kelly Iko and Sam Amick have spoken in recent hours about the rumors linking Durant… to the Rockets. Rumors that may well remain at this stage, according to them:

Depending on how the next few months unfold, NBA stars such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant and Zion Williamson could find themselves on the market. And the list could get even longer.

And even though Durant is generally seen as the most accessible player in this group – and it’s common knowledge that he’s very interested in the prospect of playing in Houston – inside sources indicate that the Rockets still have serious reservations about his possible arrival. This is largely due to his age, which doesn’t fit in with their more youth-oriented project.

A product of Texas University, KD could see himself returning to the state and playing a leading role in the West. And what better way to do so than to join Houston, where the young and talented squad has proven its worth this season. However, according to Iko and Amick, the franchise’s directors are not really interested in this potential collaboration and are not behind the negotiations:

It should be noted that past discussions between the two teams regarding Durant were initiated by the Suns, franchise sources report.

The Rockets’ recent elimination in the first round of the playoffs hasn’t changed their approach. Patience is still the name of the game for the Texans, whether their Suns counterparts or the Slim Reaper like it or not.
