After another impressive season with Paris Basket, T.J. Shorts is set to reap the rewards this summer. His profile would appeal to the NBA, but not only. The American-born point guard will now have to make a major decision.
If his club has experienced rapid growth in recent months, it’s partly thanks to him. Having joined Paris Basket in August 2023, T.J. Shorts immediately established himself as an attacking leader and a real headliner. His exploits helped the young Paris-based team win the first two trophies in its history last year, namely the Leaders Cup and the EuroCup.
Taking part in this season’s EuroLeague, the Parisians were once again able to count on their genius point guard to spring a surprise. After a sensational run to the quarter-finals, they are now hoping to continue their fine season with a Betclic ÉLITE title. This, before undoubtedly having to bid farewell to Shorts, whose exceptional performance has logically not gone unnoticed.
NBA or money? T.J. Shorts faces a difficult choice
Having outgrown Paris Basket, T.J. Shorts will not be continuing his career there next season. That’s what Clément Carton recently told Basket Europe, before reporting on the interest expressed in him… by the Grizzlies. Now coached by Tuomas Iisalo, whom the Macedonian international knows well, the Grizzlies have already considered the contours of his contract, according to Aris Barkas of Eurohoops :
According to Eurohoops sources, the Grizzlies, whose coach Tuomas Iisalo won the Champions League in Bonn and the EuroCup in Paris with Shorts, are willing to offer the point guard a guaranteed contract. That said, it seems unlikely that he will receive more than a minimum salary.
If he wants to accomplish his dream of playing in the NBA, Shorts will have to do so at a reduced price.
It remains to be seen whether this economic factor will influence his choice, as some of the EuroLeague’s bigger clubs are reportedly offering him a much higher salary. Aris Barkas continues:
On the other hand, if Shorts decides to stay in Europe, he’ll easily receive a multi-year contract with a salary three times or more higher than the minimum he’d earn in the NBA.
With his 28th birthday fast approaching, the Parisian firebrand will have to make up his mind. Either he decides to return to the USA to fulfill one of his major life goals, or he signs the biggest contract of his career while there’s still time. Quite a headache ahead.
