Once again well off during the Lottery, the Spurs have inherited the 2nd pick of the next Draft. Will they use it to pick up yet another talented prospect, or to attract Giannis Antetokounmpo? The question was put to their general manager.

Fate has a decided tendency to be very kind to them in recent years. With the last two Rookies of the Year already in their ranks, the Spurs once again had a good chance of securing a high draft pick in the last few hours. So they paid close attention to the traditional Lottery held on Monday, and were once again able to celebrate its outcome.

Having come close to the 1st pick, San Antonio’s directors were nonetheless satisfied with the #2 choice they inherited. And what could be more logical, given that this asset could serve them in so many ways. Capable of giving them one of the best prospects of the year, it could also be a great bargaining chip in a trade. In fact, some people are already imagining him helping to bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to San Antonio.

Spurs GM discusses their 2nd pick and a possible trade

Announced as one of Antetokounmpo’s main courtiers, the Spurs now have a great advantage in convincing the Bucks to sell him to them. As things stand, however, there’s no guarantee that they’ll be looking to trade this famous 2nd pick. Moreover, their coach Mitch Johnson made no mention of this hypothesis in his hot reaction. Their GM, Brian Wright, was more evasive with Jake Fischer:

Jake Fischer: It’s still a little early to predict what the Spurs plan to do with all the options at their disposal. In fact, that’s roughly the answer I received from their general manager, Brian Wright, when I asked him what San Antonio’s plans are with this 2nd pick. But that shouldn’t stop rival teams from making such assumptions.

With the draft just a month away, things don’t seem to be set in stone in San Antonio. It has to be said that the path leading to Giannis itself remains rather vague. Indeed, even if the Greek Freak is questioning his future in Milwaukee, his departure is still far from a certainty. So it’s best not to get ahead of ourselves and make plans for the future in the Texan front office.

There is no doubt that Wright and his assistants are watching the Combine currently taking place in Chicago with great attention. In particular, their eyes should be on Dylan Harper, who will succeed Cooper Flagg on the Barclays Center podium on June 25. And let’s not forget Ace Bailey and VJ Edgecombe, whose profile and potential are also very promising.
