While the Spurs have reportedly made their choice, the possible Texan recruit is clearly not against the idea of landing in San Antonio. The main reason? Victor Wembanyama, who is already causing a stir among current and future players.

It’s been obvious since 2023: San Antonio is a much more attractive destination on the market, and that’s thanks to Victor Wembanyama. The phenomenon quickly convinced observers, but also other players like De’Aaron Fox. It’s no coincidence that the point guard only wanted the Spurs when he requested his trade from the Kings.

Other players will follow in the future, while Giannis Antetokounmpo is said to have San Antonio on his preferred list. No word yet on whether the Greek Freak will also land in Texas with a trade, but it says a lot about the franchise’s attractiveness to other players. And we’re even thinking about those who will be coming in the years to come.

Spurs’ next recruit already confirmed?

After all, the organization has a choice to make with the draft in June. Keep the 2nd choice and take a big prospect, or use this pick to make a very interesting offer to another franchise. According to ESPN, the trend is clear: San Antonio will go for Dylan Harper, considered one of the best talents of this year’s draft.

There’ll be plenty of people on the back line, but San Antonio refuses to snub the draft’s second-best talent. And Harper, present at this Wednesday’s draft combine, wants to play with Wembanyama. The message got through in Texas.

Dylan Harper on Wemby : “It would be a dream come true … Victor is a freak of nature. Everything he does is crazy. He covers the whole paint.”

This should motivate the Spurs to choose Harper, who is already ready to evolve for the franchise and make sparks fly with Wembanyama. But one doubt remains: is it a good idea to bring in a new back-up to De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle?

The Spurs could have shooting problems, for example, but Harper isn’t worried about that, even if he evolves with Castle and Fox in the future.

Dylan Harper on the Spurs : “The NBA is really positionless basketball, so I mean you could play with a bunch of ball handlers and a bunch of people that could get opportunities for themselves, but let other people get opportunities for them.”
