As has so often been the case in recent years, San Antonio finds itself with quite a few draft picks in 2025. It remains to be seen which players will be selected, but fans of the franchise already have a few favorites… including a Frenchman.
It’s unclear if they’ll enter the fray for an available superstar this summer, but one thing seems certain at this point: the Spurs aren’t planning on parting ways with their draft picks. Having picked up the No. 2 and No. 14 picks on lottery night, they have the opportunity to land one of the most promising talents in the 2025 draft class. Cooper Flagg will likely have already gone to the Mavericks, but there’s a lot of competition behind him.
According to the latest rumors, the second pick should be used to acquire Dylan Harper. Averaging over 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists during his lone season at Rutgers, the combo guard would join a backcourt already packed with De’Aaron Fox, Chris Paul, Stephon Castle, and Devin Vassell. The latter might even be traded this summer to make room for him in the rotation.
Maxime Raynaud, an ideal target for the Spurs in the draft?
But what about the rest? Because as mentioned above, San Antonio also holds the No. 14 pick as well as the No. 38 pick in the second round. Some fans of the franchise have been looking into the subject, and one internet user on X even had fun putting together the complete roster, including the players he thinks should be drafted. Interestingly, a young Frenchman is among the lot:
@IanPanchevre : Starters: Fox, Castle, Barnes, Sochan, Wembanyama. Bench 1: Harper with the 2nd pick, Vassell, Johnson, Rasheer Fleming OR Carter Bryant with the 14th pick and a free agent back-up center with the MLE. Bench 2: Wesley, Champagnie, Ingram (promoted from G league), Mamukelashvili and Maxime Raynaud OR Rocco Zikarsky with the 38th pick.
Spurs don’t need to overthink this. Let Branham and Bassey walk. Sign a quality back up center. Draft Harper, Fleming, and Raynaud. THEN WE BALL.
A new French center at Spurs to accompany Victor Wembanyama? The idea is attractive, especially given Raynaud’s profile.
Having had the best season of his NCAA career with Stanford, the big man shone in 2024-25 and is looking pretty convincing at the Draft Combine, which is currently taking place. Some draft experts are even projecting him for the late first round, rather than the second. Retrieving him with the No. 38 pick would therefore be a steal.
