The Warriors sank against the Wolves, although Stephen Curry’s injury in this series certainly didn’t help. But for management, there’s another lesson to be learned from this second round, and one that could lead to change.
Even if Stephen Curry wasn’t there, the Warriors’ performance in this second round was rather disappointing on arrival. The franchise failed to pick up a game with Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green, or even Jonathan Kuminga. Disappointing for this organization, even if it will return in 2026 with the same ambition – to win the championship.
But no doubt there will be some adjustments between now and the new campaign. Kuminga is expected to leave the franchise after being benched several times by Steve Kerr and knowing that he will be a free agent this summer. This could be the front office’s opportunity to recruit a real center.
Big change in store for the Warriors?
For years, the Dubs have been operating without a true center most of the time, with Draymond Green often taking on this task. Sometimes it works, but very often this tactic shows its limits, as we saw against the Wolves. So behind the scenes, the directors have already made up their minds, according to The Athletic.
Although Green has claimed to be “the center of the future”, Golden State might actually have a different version. Like the Lakers, the Dubs will use the summer to find a new center, and a real one this time, with size.
@GSWBallReport : “Per The Athletic, The Warriors’ front office believes they need more size at every position — especially at center”
Sorry for Green, who isn’t the center of the future after all. The franchise needs size and will have to deal with competition in this area, as we just mentioned, with the Lakers also interested in a new post 5.
Naz Reid, Daniel Gafford and Brook Lopez are just a few of the names to watch out for this summer. According to Bobby Marks, the Warriors should keep an eye on the latter, especially with his ability to punish from long range.
Bobby Marks : “I think the one name to keep an eye on regarding that center position is Brook Lopez”
