Beaten by the Wolves in a very complicated series and especially without Stephen Curry, the Warriors will have some work to do over the summer. And even if the hardest part is over for the Chief, he’s expecting a few changes this off-season.
The season is ending badly for the Warriors, and we have to admit it’s rather disappointing. The franchise had great ambitions for these 2025 playoffs, thanks in particular to the successful arrival of Jimmy Butler in February, allowing Steve Kerr’s men to completely revitalize themselves. But then injuries completely distorted the picture.
We don’t know if the Dubs would have won against Minnesota with Curry around, but we imagine this second round would have turned out very differently. Frustrating for everyone, even if no one wants to panic today in Golden State. There’s still time to revive the machine, even if the main core is aging.
What’s next for the Warriors?
So Curry and company aren’t retired, but they’re not necessarily in their prime anymore. Every year counts for the Warriors, who will be back in the title hunt as early as next year, although some changes to the roster will be needed between now and then. And Curry wants changes behind the scenes, especially after the Butler trade.
In recruiting the winger, the franchise has perhaps done the hardest thing by getting back a second star who gets along perfectly with Curry. But there’s probably room for improvement at the center position and with more impactful players coming off the bench. Curry made it clear in his press conference that there are still decisions to be made.
Stephen Curry : “Our contracts -me, Draymond, Steve, Jimmy- are all two years [more]. And we want this ride to last as long as possible. But it’s just about what does this team need for next year, answering those questions over the summer … I’m excited about it because there’s clarity, although there are a lot of decisions that need to be made over the summer.”
We’re heading towards the arrival of a true center in Golden State, as Green has largely shown his limitations in terms of protecting the circle. The franchise would also like a good defender as a bonus, but that won’t necessarily be easy to find. Nevertheless, the Dubs have undoubtedly done their utmost with the Butler trade.
