Giannis Antetokounmpo may be leaving the Bucks over the summer, but it’s impossible to know where he’ll be playing in a few months’ time. For this insider, however, the Warriors remain a credible possibility.

For the first time in his career, Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t completely closing the door on a move away from the Bucks. That doesn’t mean he’ll be wearing another jersey from October onwards, but the interested party wants to assess his options before committing to the new campaign. And that seems understandable after a dismal season in Wisconsin.

With a rather weak roster in the face of competition, and with Damian Lillard’s injury set to last a very long time (9/10 months on average for the Achilles), it’s natural to wonder about Giannis’ future. He will have a discussion with his team shortly, but we can expect a decision before the draft in June.

Which team for Giannis this summer?

If Giannis is traded, a major consideration will obviously have to be dropped for him. That’s why the draft will have a direct impact on his future, for example if the Mavericks or Spurs are willing to give up their pick to the Bucks in exchange for the Greek Freak. But insider Brian Windhorst also warns against the Warriors.

The Californian franchise, eliminated by the Timberwolves in the second round of the playoffs, nevertheless recruited Jimmy Butler and one can imagine their satisfaction after this trade. So how can they get Giannis back? Well, speaking to ESPN, Windhorst thinks the deal remains possible, albeit unlikely.

Brian Windhorst : “Yes, there is a package that the Warriors could use. They have some future draft picks. They have interesting young players. Like last year, Brandon Podziemski was off limits. Who knows if that’s going to be the case this year? But they can’t win a bidding war. First off, I just want to say Giannis has not let it be known he certainly wants out of Milwaukee, so I do not think we should assume that. If we do reach that point where Giannis was going to look around, he will have agency in this. He has two years left on his contract.”

Because yes, even if Giannis asks to leave, he can’t choose his future destination. The Warriors could be interested, as could the Spurs and other franchises, but it’s the Bucks who will decide on the arrival. We imagine, however, that they will do their utmost to facilitate their player’s deal… as long as the consideration is satisfactory.
