Luka Doncic’s departure from the Dallas team has not only upset the fans, but also the players. The Slovenian was very much appreciated in the dressing room, so some are not hesitating to say they are a little disappointed by the turn of events.
Now with the Lakers and having been there for months, Luka Doncic has begun his new life in the City of Angels, and all with great happiness. We still don’t know how he’ll manage his contractual situation this summer, but he’s made it clear on several occasions that he’s ready to spend the rest of his career with the Angelinos. Quite a commitment.
That would be reassuring for the fans, as well as the front office. They paid a lot of money for the player, including Anthony Davis, and they’re not going to let him walk away free in a few years’ time. Doncic represents the future of the Lakers, and for the very long term. Nevertheless, the contract issue still needs to be settled.
Mavericks’ regrets about Doncic
And while the Angelinos are happy to be able to count on such a player today, some members of the Mavericks are disappointed for their part. This is the case of Naji Marshall, who really enjoyed his time with Luka in Dallas. He was a great person for the player, who spoke out in a recent podcast to give his opinion.
Naji Marshall : “Luka is just the chillest guy ever bro. You just feel like his best friend from day 1. He’s just a great dude. Never mad, just always happy. And just a hall of fame flamethrower when it comes to basketball… He’s like [Zion Williamson], like in practice, he just does crazy things, acting like it’s normal, and that s— just be amazing.”
“I mean, I understood, business is business as far as the NBA. But I was hurt, man. Luka is my dog, for real. And I love AD, that’s my guy… But as far as personally, I was hurt to lose Luka, man. It was a great time spent with him, the short time we did. I was just hurt to see him go.”
Doncic was the unanimous choice on the floor, but also off it, as he is much appreciated for his human qualities. And the Lakers can certainly confirm this today. Marshall’s frustration is understandable, and he may well reflect on his future in Dallas when he sees this. No doubt he wouldn’t be against a move to the Lakers, for example.
