Traded last February, Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis are now linked in some way in the NBA. So after the Mavericks’ recent lottery win, with Cooper Flagg in the firing line, we were treated to a curious trade suggestion.

Summer will be good for some teams, and we’re obviously thinking of the Mavericks and the Lakers. It will also be an opportunity to fully integrate the new players, even if Dallas will still need several months before regaining the services of Kyrie Irving. The point guard isn’t expected on an NBA floor until 2026 in the worst-case scenario.

For the Lakers, this will be the first off-season to build a squad around Doncic. We’re thinking of recruiting a true pivot this time around, although Rob Pelinka will have to find the rare pearl in the coming months. But for some fans, the goal is simple: to bring back Anthony Davis… With Cooper Flagg as a bonus.

The suggested lunar trade between Lakers and Mavericks

Because yes, why not set the web alight with a totally lunar trade by sending Luka Doncic back to the Mavericks. We shouldn’t take it too seriously, but the idea has had the merit of amusing quite a few fans, some of whom have considered the idea. What if Doncic came back to Dallas in exchange for Davis and Flagg?

Nico Harrison will obviously say no, having made it clear that he’s no fan of Doncic. And with Flagg approaching, the Mavericks are more convinced than ever that they have a chance of winning the championship in 2026, at least if injuries don’t get in the way.

Note, however, that Flagg’s draft is not yet a done deal. Dallas could use this pick or Flagg to obtain a star with more experience, in order to consolidate their squad. It’s not impossible when you know Harrison, who has already made it clear to the rest of the league that he’ll do anything to win. And according to him, defense is everything.
