Victor Wembanyama and Nikola Jokic on the same team? Some dream of it. A few even think it’s possible after the Nuggets’ recent playoff elimination. And there’s an idea for a trade.
With the Nuggets out of the picture, a lot of people will be looking to Colorado this summer. After Mike Malone’s dismissal, we’re wondering if the franchise isn’t about to clean house. Russell Westbrook, Jamal Murray or Aaron Gordon: could any of these players leave? It’s highly likely, if a trade becomes apparent.
Nonetheless, Denver were still not too far from advancing to the Western Conference Finals, and Gordon’s injury before Game 7 certainly didn’t help the franchise. It’s unlikely that a rebuild is in place in Denver, but the front office could try something different. Others wonder if Jokic might demand his departure.
Nikola Jokic away from the Nuggets?
It’s really hard to know if Jokic is ready to spend the rest of his career with the Nuggets. He’s promised to drink a lot of beer for the next few days, but it’s unclear whether he wants to continue after this latest setback. So for some Internet users, it’s time to take action and make the Nuggets an interesting offer.
Among the possible franchises interested? Yes, the Spurs, looking for another inside man to help Victor Wembanyama in the paint. Jokic would certainly be a big name for San Antonio, a bit like Giannis Antetokounmpo recently. So this Monday, you can find this trade suggestion on Twitter via @cleija.
- Spurs receive: Nikola Jokic
- Nuggets receive: Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes and Jeremy Sochan
What about picks? “Give them all away” according to the internet user in question, who clearly thinks Jokic would be perfect for the Spurs and Wembanyama. But like Giannis, there are questions to be asked about the timeline. San Antonio is a long way from winning the title, and at 30, it’s clear that the Serb is in his prime, ready to win something.
He’d be perfect for Wemby, yes, but not sure the Texans are really considering such a trade for this summer. They’re more likely to pick Dylan Harper at the draft.
