Barely eliminated from the playoffs, the Nuggets are already at the heart of transfer rumors. Nikola Jokic is one of them, and he wouldn’t be against the arrival of Giannis Antetokounmpo via a trade dreamed up by a journalist.
Given the choice, they would most certainly prefer to be the subject of debate regarding their chances of reaching the Finals right now. Instead, the Nuggets will experience the Western Conference Finals as mere observers. Beaten by the Thunder in a series decided in seven games, they must now put off their title ambitions until next year and prepare their off-season accordingly.
No vacation, then, for the franchise’s front office, whose work is really just beginning. His future decisions will be closely watched in Denver, particularly by Nikola Jokic, who is clearly unhappy with his current supporting cast. As a result, changes to the squad seem inevitable, although it remains to be seen whether these will be relatively minor or far-reaching.
Crazy trade mooted to bring Giannis and Jokic together
Already crowned champion in 2023, Jokic still can’t seem to get enough and wants to win another title with the Nuggets. To achieve this, he believes the franchise’s roster needs to be thoroughly upgraded this summer. However, his managers could adopt a different strategy on the market and get involved in the fight to recover… Giannis Antetokounmpo. This, via a trade suggested by Bailey Bassett of ClutchPoints:
- The Denver Nuggets receive : Giannis Antetokounmpo
- The Milwaukee Bucks receive : Michael Porter Jr., Peyton Watson, Hunter Tyson, DaRon Holmes, Zeke Nnaki, first-round pick 2031, first-round pick swap 2026, first-round pick swap 2028, first-round pick swap 2030
As you may have noticed, this trade would in no way enable Denver to improve its squad depth. Quite the contrary, in fact.
Nevertheless, the prospect of being paired with a superstar like Giannis could appeal to the Joker. After all, the latter has never been developed even with an All-Star teammate in his career. What’s more, Antetokounmpo would make up for his few shortcomings, namely a porous defense that opponents often take advantage of.
That said, there are several caveats to this hypothetical deal. Firstly, Aaron Gordon would have to pay the price and would have to be repositioned in the 3 position, despite having proved his worth as a strong winger in recent months. What’s more, the Bucks are unlikely to be tempted by the above offer, as they will no doubt have no trouble finding a better player on the market.
