Often pinned down for his weight in the past, notably with the Mavericks, Luka Doncic has reportedly decided to make some drastic changes for this summer of 2025. We’ll have a chance to see him at EuroBasket if all goes well.
Disappointed by ending his season with the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs, Luka Doncic also knows there’s no need to panic. The second half of the campaign was difficult for him with his trade, the change of city and all the tackles about him from the Mavericks. Not to mention the fact that the Los Angeles roster was far from ideal.
With the departure of Anthony Davis, the Angelinos have been unable to replace him, even partially. The Mark Williams trade was cancelled and Rob Pelinka will have to wait until this off-season to find a pivot, as well as players capable of playing with Doncic. The priority in Los Angeles is the Slovenian, not LeBron James, who is close to retirement.
Big change in store for Luka Doncic?
Doncic, for his part, has been highly motivated ever since he set foot in the City of Angels. He is grateful to the fans, the management and is already thinking of ending his career there. In fact, he will have the opportunity to sign a contract extension this summer. But in the meantime, the player would like to make some major changes behind the scenes, notably regarding his weight.
This is an area where Doncic has often been criticized in the past. He hasn’t always been irreproachable in terms of fitness, and it’s rumoured that he’d like to take advantage of the summer of 2025 to make some major changes behind the scenes, according to Jason Gallagher. He has a perfect example in LeBron, who could give him a lot of advice.
@LakersBetter : “RUMOR: Luka Dončić has “started anew” with a focus on conditioning and self-discipline. “I’ve heard from folks thats are pretty honest… that Luka has already begun a clean slate, starting anew, in this mindset of changing a lot about himself.””
If Doncic can reach an ideal weight and complain less to referees, then no doubt fans will be delighted to hear that. It’s time for him to take things to the next level, especially if he wants to win his first career title. We’ll have a chance to see for ourselves at EuroBasket, as Luka is expected to play for Slovenia.
