Despite an encouraging year with the arrival of Jimmy Butler, the Warriors will have a complex dossier to manage this summer with Jonathan Kuminga. And for this former player, it’s all Steve Kerr’s fault if he leaves.
Even though the franchise lost to the Wolves in the second round, the Warriors want to keep their hopes alive for the future. Admittedly, the team had been impressive to watch since the arrival of Jimmy Butler, even if Steph Curry’s injury ultimately changed things. That and the dubious behavior of Draymond Green, who has been much criticized in this campaign.
And for others, Steve Kerr is far from perfect from the bench. The coach has often been criticized in recent years, and this season won’t be enough to convince his detractors. After all, the Dubs could yet lose a valuable player due to some of his decisions. We’re thinking of Jonathan Kuminga, of course.
Steve Kerr responsible for a new start?
Always considered a young player with potential, Kuminga was dropped from the rotation on multiple occasions during the campaign. Kerr decided to snub him, including at the start of the playoffs. Knowing that Kuminga will be a restricted free agent this summer, we can see this as an invitation to leave the organization.
That, at least, is the opinion of DeMarcus Cousins, who is no stranger to the Steve Kerr method in Golden State. According to him, the coach’s decisions will cost the franchise yet another departure, and possibly without compensation in the worst-case scenario. Here’s what Boogie has to say on RunItBack about Kerr and the Warriors.
DeMarcus Cousins : “I think they lost [Kuminga]. I think Steve Kerr ruined that relationship with the DNPs. We’ve seen this happen time and time again when it comes to him and dealing with young talent. He doesn’t develop young talent. Out of the years he’s been there, we’ve seen one guy develop under Steve Kerr, and they ran him off as well, and that was Jordan Poole, so when it comes to young talent, I just don’t think they handle it well.”
A pretty heavy accusation against Kerr and the Warriors, but is the former Kings player wrong? Many Golden State fans agree that he isn’t. Poole’s departure is still far from digested, especially when the Dubs rewarded his aggressor, Draymond Green, in the process.
