Despite the Warriors’ fine season, Steve Kerr has been questioned for his work for years. His management has been the subject of debate in Golden State, and his lunatic outburst about Jonathan Kuminga is not going to help his case.
Blamed in part on Stephen Curry’s injury, the Warriors haven’t really had the wherewithal to compete with the Timberwolves in these playoffs. So with the Chief back, along with Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, the franchise remains confident it can win the championship in 2026. So count on them to keep the faith.
But for the fans, there are still plenty of doubts. This squad lacks a true pivot to win this title, while Steve Kerr’s work is often called into question. This has been the case for years, and even winning with Team USA didn’t help his case. This season, the coach was again heavily criticized.
Steve Kerr debates his exit
Kerr is criticized above all for his tactical choices. There have been many bad ones this season, notably when he chose to bencher Jonathan Kuminga for no apparent reason. He is also accused of not knowing how to develop young players, and the Kuminga case is once again the perfect example.
The player will be a restricted free agent this summer, and it’s hard to believe he’ll agree to return to the Dubs. He has benched the interested party on multiple occasions, ruining the player’s confidence, and then Kerr took it a step further in an interview this week. He openly criticized Kuminga, believing that the Warriors couldn’t win anything in his presence.
Steve Kerr on Jonathan Kuminga : “It’s a tricky one because Jonathan obviously is gifted and wants to play a bigger role and wants to play more. And for me, I’ve been asked to win. And right now, he’s not a guy who I can say I’m going to play 38 minutes with the roster that we have — Steph and Jimmy and Draymond — and put the puzzle together that way and expect to win..”
Kerr thus tackles his own player, believing that the Warriors can’t win if Kuminga is heavily involved in a game. A lunar exit, encouraging the interior’s departure and potentially ruining his confidence in passing. The GM, who wanted to keep Kuminga, will appreciate this outing.
