Now eliminated from the playoffs, the Nuggets have some decisions to make in the coming months. Clean up the roster, or put their faith in this group? The franchise is still in doubt.
Beaten by the Thunder in these playoffs, after 7 games all the same, it’s time to take stock for the Nuggets. The change of coach hasn’t really paid off and there have been numerous problems on the floor. We’ve lost count of the number of times Nikola Jokic has been annoyed with his team-mates during time-outs.
Will he jump ship this summer? Not impossible, even if Jokic looks set to continue in Colorado on paper. He’ll surely want changes to the roster to give himself the best chance of winning the title next season. But for now, he should already be back home enjoying his family and country.
What a summer for the Nuggets?
As for the directors, they’ll have their hands full with the front office. The franchise has decisions to make with Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr and Russell Westbrook. Should they keep these players and give them another chance? Or clean house, given the competition in the Western Conference?
Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. The reality is that the answer isn’t obvious, because the talent is there, but maybe the magic just isn’t working anymore. According to Sam Amico, who spoke about this issue, the Nuggets are in doubt. The franchise doesn’t really know what to do at the moment, even if a trend is emerging.
Sam Amico : “So even Nikola Jokic as the main man, the Nuggets still need help. Sources say they’re hesitant to part ways with core members of their 2023 championship team — Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr., and now, Christian Braun. Obviously, Jokic isn’t going anywhere.”
As for Westbrook, he’s likely to jump ship, with performances that haven’t convinced everyone in these playoffs. But what about the rest? Denver could well give this roster another chance, with a few adjustments over the summer. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to get back to the top of the NBA.
