Disappointed with the end of the season with his Nuggets, Nikola Jokic wants internal changes before the start of the next campaign. It looks like the message has been received by management, who are going to clean house.
Despite a Game 7 against the Thunder, the Nuggets will not see the color of the Western Conference Finals this season. For a long time, the franchise looked good, but Nikola Jokic was sometimes too isolated to hope for a solid finish. It could even be said that he wasn’t perfect all the time during this playoff run.
Adjustments? It’s a big possibility after the recent disappointment, especially as Jokic is calling for changes internally. He made an interesting remark in a press conference, believing that teams that succeed in the playoffs have a talented bench and a big rotation. A barely concealed message to his managers.
Nikola Jokic wants changes at the Nuggets
So it’s not yet clear how the Nuggets will go about trying to improve the quality of the rotation, but Josh Kroenke, the organization’s president, confirms that he has heard his player’s plea. He plans to make changes, but beware, as the new NBA rules are penalizing.
Josh Kroenke : “There’s a sense of urgency to improve this team and the organization, whether we’re talking about the draft or a trade. Right now, I think having a coherent organization from the coaching staff to the front office is our priority. I heard Jokic’s comments and was probably thinking the same thing before he said them.”
“But when you look at the playoffs, seeing the games, we relied on a lot of players in the important moments. And in a 7-game series, that can be a problem. (…) I think the opportunities are there if you’re smart and find the right value in certain players that others don’t see.”
We can therefore expect a few adjustments from the Nuggets over the summer, even if the president is still mysterious about the process. One thing seems certain given his speech: there’s no question of offending Jokic by ignoring his requests.
