It’s not yet known whether LeBron James will retire in a few weeks’ time with the Lakers, as the player has decided to keep the suspense alive. And as for his agent, it’s still a complete mystery for the time being.
At the age of 40, LeBron James is still a stalwart with the Lakers. He is no longer the team’s priority with the recent arrival of Luka Doncic, but the directors know they need him to try and win that famous championship. But before September’s return to action, the future of the King remains a mystery.
After all, he has an important decision to make, with a possible retirement. Nothing confirmed at the moment, especially as insiders unanimously believe that James will return for another NBA campaign. But this could take place in Los Angeles, or potentially elsewhere if another team comes forward.
Possible retirement for LeBron James
As for the fans, they don’t really believe this retirement story. Despite the King’s age, it’s highly doubtful that he’ll decide to stop without a farewell tour during the regular season. The most likely scenario for some? An announcement before September for a retirement in the summer of 2026. He could also continue until 2027 to play with his other son, Bryce.
For the time being, the mystery is technically there. LeBron has refused to dispel doubts as he has in recent years, and don’t count on those close to him to sway any decision. In a recent broadcast, Rich Paul, his agent, was asked about the subject. He confirms that he knows nothing, as discussions are expected to take place in June.
Rich Paul : “”I have no idea, zero. Normally our process is, kind of weigh everything and see how he’s feeling and all those type of things, same process it’s been for the last I don’t know how many years. He’ll come around to what he’s thinking at some point and we’ll kind of go over some things and go from there.”
LeBron hasn’t made up his mind yet, or perhaps it’s too early to announce it. We also know that the draft is coming up, as is free agency, where the Lakers are expected to make a number of possible signings. And if James wants to put pressure on his front office, a threat of departure or retirement is the best way.
