In an attempt to secure a pivot for this summer, the Lakers could part company with Austin Reaves, who has been far from unanimous in the playoffs. But these rumors are getting on the nerves of the player, or at least his agent, who has sent out a message.
It’s clear after their playoff defeat that the Lakers need a pivot. Winning the championship will obviously not be achieved with a true post 5, but it will give JJ Redick’s men a better chance of winning something. And now it’s up to Rob Pelinka to scour the market for his perfect match.
A trade? A simple free agency signing? For the moment, we’re going with the first option, especially as the Angelinos have a number of assets in Dalton Knecht, to name but one. It’s the best way to recruit a player capable of making an impact, and not just a player of little interest. Fans have seen this for themselves this season.
Lakers player’s agent gets angry
But finding the right man will not be easy, despite several interesting leads. Nic Claxton and Daniel Gafford come to mind, but we can expect tense negotiations. We know, for example, that the Austin Reaves case is dividing the web, with some observers believing that now is the right time to trade the fullback.
Reaves is eligible for a contract extension this summer, but according to ESPN, he has no plans to sign it. His goal is simple: to become a free agent in 2026 and pick up a bigger contract, accompanied by a higher salary. Logical, but given his performances, it’s doubtful that the Lakers would be interested. However, her agent is already starting to apply pressure.
@AMRAgency : “Next year is going to be a show. People really have no idea what’s to come. Keep putting him in trade rumors for second string centers.”
So we’d like to make it clear that nobody is doing that, with Reaves serving as an asset to pick up a high-value pivot in the majority of cases. It’s still a pretty strong statement and a warning to the Lakers, who will probably have to break out the checkbook in the summer of 2026 to try and keep the player. It remains to be seen whether he’ll live up to his billing on the floor.
