What will Russell Westbrook do this summer? After another more or less convincing campaign, the former MVP could decide, at nearly 37, to retire. Unless he finds one last challenge, and luckily, some superstars are courting him.

Russell Westbrook’s playoffs were like his last few seasons in the league: full of ups and downs. Very important in the first round against the Clippers with 13.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals on average, the former MVP failed to maintain this level against the Thunder. His numerous turnovers were a real handicap for his team.

With a player option worth just over $3 million, nobody knows what he’s going to do this off-season. At 36 and having played over 1,200 regular-season games in his career, Russ could decide to hang it up and move on to the next chapter of his life. Unless he finds one last interesting challenge and decides to extend.

Russell Westbrook back in OKC next year?

If he opts for the latter, the idea will be clear: to win a ring. And there’s a destination that would allow him to kill two birds with one stone. By moving back to Oklahoma, he’d be playing for one of the best teams of recent years, while returning to the franchise he started out with. And the good news is that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be particularly interested in bringing the legend back into the fold.

Shai to Russ: “I’m tryna get u back… back here”

American lip-reading specialists are certain that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, seconds after eliminating the Nuggets, was proposing to Russell Westbrook that he finish his career at home. He probably wouldn’t have the most important role, he wouldn’t necessarily play every night, but the 2017 MVP could finish in front of a loving public and in an ambitious group.

In a league where business is king, a sentimental story like this would be refreshing. It’s increasingly difficult for stars to end on a high note, like Kevin Durant, who could be traded to a new franchise this summer. Russell Westbrook has the chance to erase a few difficult years with a happy ending.
