The Lakers and Warriors still have similar targets for the new summer, and both teams are rumored to have the same player in their sights. A great battle in prospect when free agency opens.
The draft arrives next month for NBA franchises, but it’s free agency that’s really exciting the crowds. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant could be traded over the summer, while the Lakers are looking to make a big splash with a center. Quite logical, given their shortcomings against the Wolves in the playoffs.
The Warriors, meanwhile, had similar problems against Minnesota. Draymond Green was dominated throughout by Julius Randle by his own admission, while the franchise also lacks size in the racket. After years of popularizing and insisting on small-ball, perhaps Steve Kerr’s men need to return to a more basic game.
Lakers and Warriors battle it out on the market?
And the good news for these teams is that there are several interesting centers on the market for this summer. Nic Claxton could leave the Nets in perdition, Daniel Gafford should be let go by the Mavericks before he gets a new contract, while the Bucks could part with Brook Lopez after another setback.
We know that the Bucks are struggling, and the possible departure of Giannis should lead to a flurry of trades. According to ESPN, the Warriors and Lakers are both seriously interested in Lopez. A circle protector capable of punishing from three-point range? It’s a profile that could appeal to a lot of people.
But can he get along with Luka Doncic? That’s a question for the Lakers to answer.

The news shouldn’t come as a surprise to many, as the Warriors and Lakers still have the same objectives for this summer. The two franchises are likely to cross paths on a number of issues, although the recruitment of a center is a priority for the coming off-season. It remains to be seen who will come out on top and who will recruit Lopez for this summer. It could be another team, especially as centers are plentiful.
