The Timberwolves now have their backs against the wall. Trailing 3-1 in the series against the Thunder, and with the next game in Oklahoma, Chris Finch’s men have no room for error. The disappointing Anthony Edwards delivered a crazy analysis of his game.
The Western Conference Finals just took a decisive turn. After their thrashing at the hands of the Thunder on Saturday, the Timberwolves had the chance to pull back to 2-2 in the series and secure an extra game at home. Unfortunately, Chris Finch’s men couldn’t repeat the feat and lost by the skin of their teeth.
It has to be said that they were up against a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in MVP mode, or even in “best player on the planet” mode. Following a disappointing performance in Game 3, the point guard decided to calm everyone down with a 40-point, 10-assist, 9-rebound outing. He also relied on free throws to frustrate his opponents and the crowd, and build his confidence.
Anthony Edwards’ crazy take about his game
Conversely, Minnesota wasn’t helped by its Anthony Edwards/Julius Randle duo, who combined for just 21 points. The fullback was not very skilful in this match, and failed to get involved in other aspects of the game, finishing with 6 assists and 5 turnovers. And yet, in his press conference, he disagreed with those who said he was struggling.
I don’t think I was in any trouble tonight. The same goes for Julius Randle. The Thunder had a good game plan, which was to take the ball out of our hands. Especially with me, they were always in the right spaces. But I made the right reads all night. I don’t feel I was in any trouble. I didn’t take enough shots to be in trouble.
Anthony Edwards is adamant that he didn’t take, and therefore missed, enough shots to consider himself in trouble with the Thunder. Yet statistically, his 38% success rate and 14% 3-pointers strongly resemble a difficult evening. Especially since, with a few more points, the Timberwolves could have won.
From now on, it will take a real miracle for Minnesota to reach the Finals. Ant Man and his team-mates will have to pull off an extraordinary feat by winning twice in Oklahoma, including a possible high-tension Game 7. But with a talent like Edwards, nothing is impossible.
