Ready to join the Spurs at the last deadline according to Shams Charania, Kevin Durant knows that the opportunity could present itself again this summer. But is he really the best choice for the Texan franchise?

Well on the way to selecting Dylan Harper in June’s draft, the Spurs should ultimately play it safe. The franchise sees this young prospect as a future star, and obviously wants to pair him with Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle to build an impressive future in Texas. But there’s temptation too.

With the possible departure of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, the Texans are clearly interested. It has to be said that they have the assets for such a trade, as well as gaps on the wing. But should we fall for one of these players? Some fans think so, even if the price tag is likely to be radically different.

Spurs in a dilemma this summer?

Giannis is in his prime, with a franchise that certainly doesn’t want to lose him, although it should respect its player’s wishes. But that means the Bucks will be asking for exceptional consideration against the star, a price that could put off many in the NBA. Including the Spurs.

Durant, on the other hand, is a player who will be 37 in September and isn’t that attached to the Suns. The consideration required should be significant, but much less than that of the Greek Freak. A preferable option for the Spurs with this data, except that the organization is far from playing for the title in the immediate future. So this could be seen as a bit of a rush.

@esidery : “The Spurs and Kevin Durant held mutual interest at the trade deadline, which could be explored again this summer, per @ShamsCharania on @PatMcAfeeShow. Compared to pursuing a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, a move for Durant would cost San Antonio significantly less assets.”

Less assets for Durant, but a fit that seems perhaps less obvious than Giannis, currently in his prime and who could play several years in Texas. A dilemma for San Antonio, who also have a third option: take Harper and settle for complementary players to strengthen their roster. No need for a major trade, at least at this stage.
