Symbols of a youthful, forward-looking team, Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr seem to be happy as they are with the Wizards. However, according to an American journalist, their franchise should be looking at a high-profile target.
In their eyes, there’s no good reason to hurry. The Wizards prefer to take their time, as they are still a long way from being able to fight for the title. On the other hand, they can already congratulate themselves on the recent progress of their project. Thanks to their recent good picks, they have been able to draft several promising prospects, including Frenchmen Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr in the last two years.
Add to this other young talents such as Jordan Poole, Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George and AJ Johnson, and you have an encouraging cocktail for the future. This is certainly not a time for rushing, but rather for development on the Washington D.C. side. That said, they could take advantage of the complex situation of a rival team in the East to acquire a big name this summer.
Return to Washington for a former All-Star?
While the Wizards are in an encouraging situation, both athletically and economically, the Celtics can’t say the same. In addition to Jayson Tatum’s long-term injury, they may have to part with a major player in the off-season to lighten their payroll. Bailey Bassett of ClutchPoints could see them sending Kristaps Porzingis… back to Washington:
- The Washington Wizards receave: Kristaps Porzingis, 2nd-round pick 2025 (via Washington)
- The Boston Celtics receave : Richaun Holmes, Saddiq Bey, Anthony Gill, Colby Jones
In doing so, Boston would save $11 million and clean up its finances in a big way.
What’s more, they’d get Saddiq Bey, who could be of some use off the bench if he has recovered from his cruciate ligament rupture. But then, what would be the point of the Wiz’ picking up Porzingis? Mainly to get their hands on their second-round pick in the 2025 draft, which could prove interesting. Even more so knowing that the Latvian interior will be at the end of his contract next year.
Bailey Bassett therefore sees this hypothetical deal as beneficial for both teams involved and concludes:
Bailey Bassett: The Wizards’ rebuild is far from over, so it would be smart of them to increase their draft capital a little further. Plus, it’s possible they could trade Porzingis for other assets down the road.
