The trend is confirmed: Chris Paul is not expected to return to the Spurs this summer, especially given the organization’s recent choices. But where can the point guard rebound from now on? We’ve been given a few leads by insiders.

Having arrived in San Antonio in the summer of 2024, it goes without saying that Chris Paul’s arrival has done the Spurs a world of good. He was invaluable on the floor at the start of the season, providing invaluable advice to Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, winner of the rookie of the year award. But he will soon be a free agent.

CP3 will be on the market as early as this summer, in fact, since he signed a one-year contract in the first place. A way of bouncing back better if the experience in Texas wasn’t a good one, but it’s fair to say that everything went very well. Except that today, according to several insiders, we’re heading straight for a departure for the veteran, no longer necessarily essential to the franchise.

What does the future hold for Chris Paul?

And yet, the former Clipper would undoubtedly be very useful coming off the bench or continuing to help this locker room, but we also know that he wants an important role on a team and with minutes. However, and with De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper’s draft in a few weeks’ time, the situation has changed for the Spurs and not in Paul’s direction.

Barring a turn of events, everyone is now expecting him to leave. Perhaps his friend LeBron James’ Lakers will want to go on the offensive, while the Mavericks are interested in him, according to several people. Marc Stein, for his part, has confirmed that his departure is the most likely scenario at present.

Betting site Bovada, for its part, already has a few leads for the frontrunner and has listed the favourites:

Bovada : “Dallas Mavericks -120 Los Angeles Lakers +300 Los Angeles Clippers +375 Cleveland Cavaliers +575 Memphis Grizzlies +900”

No confirmation here, but it’s no coincidence that Dallas is the favorite. The franchise won’t have Kyrie Irving for months and is looking for a quality point guard capable of continuing to exist when Uncle Drew returns. This is a perfect fit for CP3, who would have a starting role in Texas if he continues for another year.

What is certain for many is that his departure from the Spurs is a foregone conclusion. However, watch out for a surprise on the market, especially if San Antonio tries to convince him.
