Tyrese Haliburton, put a monstrous performance in Game 4 against New York, without a unique statline in playoff history. This didn’t stop his coach, Rick Carlisle, from savagely downplaying the star point guard’s performance…

Clearly, these 2024-25 playoffs belong to the Pacers! Already conference finalists last year, they’re literally rolling through the East. Having already beaten the Bucks and then the Cavaliers in five games, Tyrese Haliburton and his teammates are about to inflict the same fate on the Knicks, now leading 3-1 in the series.

Having not been efficient on scoring during the previous match, the point guard was keen to make up for it so as not to lose a second game in a row and he succeeded brilliantly. His production that night was breathtaking: 32 points on 11/23 shooting, 12 rebounds, 15 assists and four steals, all without a single turnover. Despite all his efforts, the New York players watched helplessly as he put up his masterclass:

Rick Carlisle’s non-reaction to Tyrese Haliburton’s stellar performance

It’s simple: no one has ever had a 30-point, 15-assist playoff game without losing a single ball. That’s a testament to the magnitude of Haliburton’s feat, achieved at the best of times, with Indiana just one win away from qualifying for the Finals for the first time since 2000. When asked about the performance, coach Rick Carlisle remained phlegmatic:

I know Ty did some historic stat stuff tonight. That’s great, but you know what… It’s just stuff talking about stats when it’s such a team thing right now. So I’m happy for him, it’ll get celebrated on all the networks and stuff like that. But in our world right now, it’s day 7 of 13, and tomorrow is day 8. We have to keep our eye on the ball and keep focusing on each day.

Some players might not appreciate their coach downplaying their performance in this way, especially at this stage of the competition, but Carlisle has a point: despite this comfortable lead, nothing is decided yet, and his team must finish the job in Game 5. The tactician knows something about this, having been champion in 2011 with Dallas.
