Absent from the playoffs with the 76ers, Paul George has been able to follow the evolution of the Giannis Antetokounmpo soap opera with ease. He has spoken out on the subject in recent hours, and struggles to imagine a clear-cut scenario involving the Greek.

When he arrived in Philadelphia last summer, he thought he could become part of the title race. However, his franchise is currently a mere spectator in the Eastern Conference Finals. In fact, it hasn’t even managed to qualify for the playoffs, weighed down by recurring injuries to its stars. This includes Paul George, whose first season with the 76ers will be remembered as a bitter failure.

Regularly hampered by problems with his left knee, groin and little finger, the star winger soon had to put his ambitions on hold. Along with other big names in the league whose collective results were disappointing. These include Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was eliminated in the first round of the postseason with the Bucks and whose future in Milwaukee is now in jeopardy.

Paul George gives his verdict on Giannis’ NBA future

Tired of his team’s repeated failures in the playoffs, Giannis is reportedly wondering what to do next with his career. It has to be said that the arguments put forward by his managers to retain him leave much to be desired. This explains why the Greek Freak has been the subject of so many rumours in recent weeks. Paul George, however, doesn’t see him changing his tune this off-season, and explains why in his Podcast P :

Paul George: I think Giannis Antetokounmpo fits in more with the older generation, in the sense that he’d like to stay in Milwaukee his whole career. I don’t see him wanting to leave. And that’s the trend you see with international players. Most of them want to stay where they were drafted, and that’s understandable given that they come from another world.

They arrive in the U.S. and are pampered like royalty. They see that their first franchise takes care of their family, so they consider it their home. And on top of that, in Giannis’ case, he won a title there, so it’s also about legacy for him. So yeah, I find it hard to imagine him wanting to leave this place.

To go along with PG, it’s true that the league’s international stars often remain loyal to their first loves. Just ask Nikola Jokic or Luka Doncic, who wanted to spend his entire career in Dallas. However, Giannis has already offered the Bucks a title and can now consider that he has done his bit. What’s more, the prospect of joining a brighter market is one that is sure to appeal to him.
