The Spurs are often listed to recruit a big star over the summer, even if things have quietened down in recent weeks. Nevertheless, and in his latest show, Shams Charania has revived the whole thing.

We’ll be keeping a very close eye on the Spurs’ actions over the summer. They have a lot of decisions to make, starting with the draft in June, with the second pick in particular. But according to all the insiders including ESPN, it’s already almost a foregone conclusion that San Antonio will take Dylan Harper at this event, him coming to play alongside Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox.

Plenty of point guards in Texas, but Harper is considered a future NBA star, so the Spurs don’t want to miss out if the opportunity arises. Others would have preferred the front office to use all these assets to pick up a star on the wing, like Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo.

What’s Spurs’ attitude to the market?

These two stars are precisely on the way out, although we’re waiting for confirmation for Giannis, who has to make a decision with the Bucks. If that’s the case, the Spurs have the assets to make such a trade, but is it really the right choice for a team that didn’t make the playoffs this season? It’ll be up to management to decide.

Despite a few attempts to calm things down, Shams Charania pleased a few fans on his show this Tuesday. He confirmed that the Spurs have a lot of assets and are looking at possible improvements on the wing. They’re not yet out of the running for Giannis and KD.

Shams Charania : “The Spurs also have a lot of assets. They have contracts to trade, the 2nd and 14th picks in this draft, other picks to trade in the future. There is Giannis Antetokounmpo, or even Kevin Durant, with whom there was mutual interest at the deadline. They’ll be looking at the market thinking ‘is there a player to take us to the next level?’”

So we have to believe that the Spurs are still thinking about a major trade for this summer, especially if it allows the franchise to validate a playoff spot and play for the title very quickly. We know that anything is possible with Victor Wembanyama, but be careful not to move too quickly. We’ll know more in the coming weeks, especially if Giannis confirms his intention to leave Wisconsin.
