Absent from the court for months, Victor Wembanyama hopes to be ready for September in the best-case scenario. In his latest show, Shams Charania gave an update on the Frenchman’s health.
The Spurs’ season certainly took a turn for the worse in February, when the franchise had to announce the withdrawal of Victor Wembanyama due to venous thrombosis. A very dangerous case that could lead to a year’s absence in some cases, or even a total career stoppage in the worst-case scenario. But the Texans have always been confident about Victor.
Despite the concern, Spurs felt that the Frenchman’s case was lonely and that he could one day return to the parquets. But when? That’s the big question. Even when he appeared before the media a few weeks ago, Wemby refused to give any indication as to his future. And yet, there’s the EuroBasket with Les Bleus in August.
When will Victor Wembanyama be ready?
If the player wants to take part, he’ll have to get the go-ahead from the doctors, and that’s unlikely. We imagine that the Spurs would prefer Victor to rest up for the summer, so as to return in September in top form in the best-case scenario. And Shams Charania has some good news in this regard.
Nothing confirmed yet, but according to the league’s biggest insider, San Antonio expects Victor back for training camp in September and in top form. It would be almost miraculous after the February announcement, but the Frenchman is getting better and better behind the scenes. Fantastic news, as Shams explains.
Shams Charania : “Victor Wembanyama has been doing some on-court stuff. From everything I hear, the Spurs fully expect him to be ready to go for the start of training camp. That’s amazing news for the Spurs and the NBA.”
When you consider Victor’s impact on the Texans and the league, yes, Adam Silver can rub his hands. Now we just have to hope that this incident is a lonely one and that Wemby can resume his career without any problems whatsoever. We know that he’ll want to play in the playoffs with the Spurs in 2026, and it’s going to be a lot of work to get there.
