In all likelihood, the Spurs will select Dylan Harper in a few weeks’ time at the draft. But a turnaround is not out of the question for a journalist, especially with the consideration mentioned.

Still very lucky in the lottery, the Spurs have picked up the second pick of the next draft, allowing them to pick up another talented young player. Assuming Cooper Flagg is selected by the Mavericks, the second-best prospect in this draft is Dylan Harper, who could become a major NBA star.

The Spurs’ choice therefore seems to have been made behind the scenes, but there is one problem: the player’s compatibility with the rest of the squad. Harper is a point guard who needs the ball to exist and has a three-point shot that’s still far from lethal. A similar profile to De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle on paper, raising questions about his draft.

A possible trade for the Spurs at the draft

So for some observers, a trade shouldn’t be ruled out for the Spurs, who could turn to experienced players or profiles more interesting to them. NY Post reporter Brian Lewis confirms that the Nets could be interested in this second draft pick, knowing that they have a certain Cam Johnson on their roster…

Brian Lewis : “There is a sentiment around the league the Nets could look to land a second lottery pick by consolidating and packaging some combination of Johnson, those picks at the end of the first round and/or future draft capital”

The Nets are loaded for this first round with the 8th pick, 19th pick, as well as the 26th and 27th. Enough to negotiate with the Spurs?

It’s hard to say, but Johnson would certainly be an interesting player since we’re talking about a real shooter, and it just so happens that the Spurs need something like that on their roster. Brett Siegel, for ClutchPoints, adds the following:

Siegel : “Of the teams with possible interest in moving up from their current spot, the Brooklyn Nets continue to stand out given Sean Marks’ interest in constantly moving picks”

And CP reports that the Spurs are certainly open to the idea of giving up this second choice. The franchise is keen to explore all scenarios so as not to regret anything, so it’s highly likely that discussions will take place with the Nets. It remains to be seen whether Johnson and a combination of picks can convince them.
