No miracle for the Timberwolves, beaten by the Thunder one last time on Wednesday evening. Rudy Gobert, still far from brilliant in this game, was quickly criticized by a large part of the web.
It was the same scenario for the Timberwolves as last year, namely elimination from the Western Conference Finals. The Mavericks got the better of them in 2024, but this time it was the Thunder who largely dominated the series. Victory on Wednesday night, 124-94, takes them into the next round of the playoffs, or in other words… the Grand Final.
On the other side, we find Minnesota, and let’s just say it’s no joy. Yes, Anthony Edwards has knocked out some big stars in his young career, but for the moment, it’s not paying off. The Wolves just can’t seem to turn the corner, and with the possible departure of Naz Reid, we’ll have to ask ourselves some hard questions about the future of this organization.
Rudy Gobert targeted by fans
And as is often the case, the critics were quick to attack Rudy Gobert after this elimination. Limited to 19 minutes of play, the Frenchman compiled 2 points and 5 rebounds on Wednesday night. His defense is important, yes, but his offensive game is a problem, as we saw in this series. And for some, it may have been one performance too many.
It’s unlikely that the Wolves will agree to trade the Frenchman this summer, nor that any franchises will be interested in paying the asking price. For many Internet users, Gobert has been too disappointing in this series and it’s going to be hard to forget. One person shared this message following the elimination on Wednesday.
@DaKidGowie : “Rudy Gobert averaged 5.8 points and 6.6 rebounds this series, and people wonder why I’m a “hater.” It’s Year 12 and he still can’t make an impact offensively. The ONLY player I’ve ever seen go into each season without improving, but is awarded and praised like a superstar.”
It’s worth noting that Rudy takes a lot of criticism throughout the year, some of it a little abusive. But to say that the Frenchman missed his series against the Thunder is rather deserved given the games, in the image of a Minnesota team completely overwhelmed. After several failures, it’s not impossible to see changes.
