While the Lakers are targeting big players for this summer, Rob Pelinka could change targets on the market to everyone’s surprise. A problem for some fans, especially if the goal is to help Luka Doncic this season.
The Lakers have their work cut out for them this summer, with the expected recruitment of several players to fill the roster’s many gaps. The most obvious is the center position, as we saw against the Timberwolves. The departure of Anthony Davis left its mark, and he was unfortunately never replaced.
Rob Pelinka now needs to find solutions, and he’s got his work cut out for him. The cancellation of the Mark Williams trade is still not digested by some, so some fans are hoping for a major trade to find a center. For example, by recruiting a Myles Turner if he doesn’t extend with the Pacers.
What trade for the Lakers at the center position?
Nic Claxton or Daniel Gafford are other possible players for this summer. It’s worth noting that the Angelinos may need to recruit two players in the interior sector, especially as Jaxson Hayes is expected to leave according to the latest reports. But in reality, according to Bleacher Report, the Lakers could be targeting even lesser-known players.
Rather than chasing big stars to pair Doncic with a quality center, the Purple and Gold could choose lesser-known and therefore less expensive players, potentially in order to save money. A contingency plan perhaps, but it’s fair to say that such a scenario doesn’t really appeal to the fans.

This would be a change from the franchise’s recent ambitions, with players like Mitchell Robinson or Deandre Ayton, as some fans want. It’s even a far cry from Mark Williams, who was a promising young center capable of a few cartons. So there’s no saying it’s confirmed, but if it is, Pelinka won’t help his popularity with fans.
