While the Lakers will have a very important goal in 2026, Luka Doncic is determined to help his new franchise achieve it. Behind the scenes, the Slovenian is said to have taken the criticism of recent months very badly.
Largely dominated by the Wolves in the playoffs, the Lakers have their work cut out if they really want to have a chance of winning the championship for 2026. Some fans are unconfident and think they’ll have to wait several years, but that’s not an option with the end of LeBron James’ career looming. So we can expect some aggression on the market this summer.
Then there’s the case of Luka Doncic. We learned this week that he would indeed be present with Slovenia to play in EuroBasket, giving him a chance to step up his game in September with the Angelinos’ training camp. He will obviously be eagerly awaited, especially as the last few months have been difficult for him.
Luka Doncic ready for a change?
Between the trade, the move, the criticism and everything else, Doncic has been through a lot of changes in recent months. Not easy, of course, for the player, who hopes to return to his true level with the Lakers next season. And he’ll also have the perfect opportunity to silence his haters, of whom there are many in Dallas.
If the player has been traded, it’s partly because of his behavior or attitude with referees. The Mavs feel he doesn’t have what it takes to win the championship, which explains his desire to change behind the scenes according to those close to him. This is what the Los Angeles Times explains in its latest article about Doncic.
LA Times : “REPORT: There were people in Luka’s camp who felt he was in store for a big offseason because of the humiliation he felt in discussions about his work ethic & conditioning after he was traded from Dallas.. The Lakers should expect a fully engaged Doncic back in LA”
Good news for the Lakers, especially as Doncic appeared in good form at a Real Madrid game recently. We’ll have the chance to find out more in August, with EuroBasket. A first opportunity for the player to show off his skills.
