Barring a last-minute surprise, we’re well on the way to seeing Jonathan Kuminga leave for the Warriors. At least, that’s what Anthony Slater is suggesting, as the young player is an ambitious man.

Often benched this season and soon to be a free agent, the case of Jonathan Kuminga is extremely divisive for the Warriors. Some feel that the interior deserves more minutes to continue to exploit his potential, while others think that his departure would be the best news. It has to be said that the player has alternated between the good and the not-so-good.

Some interesting passages in the offensive sector, but a defense and altruism that sometimes bothered Steve Kerr, who took the decision to sanction him several times. Kuminga wasn’t even playing at the start of the playoffs, but Stephen Curry’s injury quickly changed that. Not everyone was happy with his management.

Departure expected at Warriors

Kerr isn’t a fan of Kuminga and openly explained as much in this May, believing that his managers couldn’t ask him to win games and give Kuminga big playing time. A direct tackle for a player who will be a free agent this summer, even if the Warriors will have the opportunity to bring him back by matching any offer.

Is the player interested? Given his role with the Dubs and the coach’s criticisms, it’s hard to see how this could be the case. In his latest article, Anthony Slater doesn’t officially confirm a departure, but he insists that the player’s ambition is incompatible with the Warriors. A sign-and-trade seems most likely at this stage.

Anthony Slater : “Kuminga, league sources said, still has visions of becoming an All-Star, not fitting into an ever-moving mid-tier rotation role. He wants to be a featured player in an NBA offense and chase the 20-point-and-beyond dreams he’s spent his life chasing.”

Kuminga is ambitious, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Is it possible for him? Let’s just say it won’t be at the Warriors, the way things are going with the franchise and especially with Kerr as coach. All the more reason for the interior to look elsewhere this off-season.
