While the possible departure of Giannis Antetokounmpo is still the talk of the NBA, the Warriors are among the outsiders in this dossier. One journalist has come up with a seven-player deal that would allow the Greek Freak to join them.
At the age of 37, Stephen Curry knows he doesn’t have much time left to win another title. So do his managers. As a result, the Warriors are among the franchises mentioned as potential courtiers for Giannis Antetokounmpo. And while the latter has only fueled this rumor with a viral move, Brian Windhorst considered a possible trade a few weeks ago in Get Up:
Brian Windhorst: The Warriors have the assets to attract Giannis. They have future draft picks and interesting young players like Brandin Podziemski, who was out of reach last year but might not be now (…) If Giannis decided to leave and went to his managers explicitly saying he wants to play for the Warriors, a deal could be struck between the two teams.
Giannis to the Warriors? The 3-team trade to settle the deal
At just 30 years of age, Antetokounmpo still has many years to offer any team in the league. He would therefore represent a prime reinforcement for Steph Curry and Golden State. But how to lure him to the Bay Area, when he’ll be earning no less than $54 million next season? Siddhant Gupta attempted to answer this question in the columns of Fadeaway World :
- The Golden State Warriors receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
- The Milwaukee Bucks receive: Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Gary Payton II, Patrick Williams, first-round pick 2026 (GSW), first-round pick 2028 (GSW), first-round pick 2027 (CHI), first-round pick 2029 (CHI), second-round pick 2028 (CHI)
- The Chicago Bulls receive: Jonathan Kuminga
In addition to Giannis, the Dubs would retain Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, which would be quite an achievement. On the other hand, they would lose their talented young players, including Jonathan Kuminga, whose future no longer seemed to lie in California. He would then move to Chicago, where he would form a promising pair with Josh Giddey.
For their part, the Bucks would begin a rebuild with several choice assets. Not only would they get their hands on a number of high-potential players, but also several first-round draft picks. It’s not certain, however, that the Bulls would be willing to give up two of them in this swap, simply to get Kuminga in return. In the end, this is the only fly in the ointment.
