After a calamitous campaign, with no playoffs at the end, the Suns have some housekeeping to do this summer. Kevin Durant is set to jump ship, and not to join the Spurs, according to the latest reports.
Determined to challenge for the title again this year, Kevin Durant was nowhere near it with the Suns. They didn’t even snag a play-in spot, despite the presence of KD, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker. That says a lot about this failure, which cannot remain without consequences. We’re expecting a clean sweep this off-season.
If Booker, the fans’ darling, is considered untouchable, he may be the only one in this situation. Beal’s departure seems a foregone conclusion, as he has never found his place since arriving in a trade, while KD is in a similar situation. Freeing himself from his contract will do him some good after NBA rules, and he no doubt wants to play elsewhere after such a fiasco.
Where will Kevin Durant go?
But where to rebound after all that? Durant will be 37 in September and undoubtedly wants to play for the title. The Spurs have been mentioned as a possible pick-up, but knowing that the Texan franchise hasn’t reached the playoffs in some time, it’s not clear that the timing is ideal for him to join San Antonio. The Timberwolves make much more sense for him.
Anthony Edwards’ team failed to reach the Western Conference Finals for the second time in a row, and according to Sam Amico, they’re looking for another “alpha” to help Ant Man turn the corner and win the championship. A description that fits Durant perfectly, so much so that negotiations are reportedly already taking place behind the scenes.
@ShotCoverage : “REPORT: The Minnesota Timberwolves have contacted an Eastern Conference team to help facilitate a Kevin Durant Trade Package, per Sam Amico.”
We don’t know the identity of this Eastern team, but it confirms that Minnesota is serious about recruiting Durant. This rumor is credible, since according to numerous insiders, including Shams Charania in recent months, the Wolves have already tried to bring in the Slim Reaper at the deadline, without success. After their failure in the West, we can only imagine a new offensive, with an even more determined front office.
